Our second collaboration as Miranda & Mirón, Claudia Repilado Miranda and I formulated Contra fortuna no vale arte as an installation-action in two parts. During the opening of the exhibition, we sold tickets to the visitors for the value of one euro. They would insert their coin in a piñata shaped like a bank (the traditional spanish equivalent to a piggy bank) in exchange for their ticket, and a chance to destroy the bank later.

After a couple of hours night fell and we brought the piñata-bank up to the roof and let everyone know the game was about to begin. We called out a random ticket number, the corresponding player was blindfolded and tried with all their might to crush the piñata and obtain it's prize: the total sum of money for whomever could break it. After 21 turns, the piñata finally broke open and the winner earned a total of 86 euros.

After the opening we left the remains of the piñata and a video of the game to be exhibited with the rest of the works as part of the exhibition.

The project was selected in an open call for 6 euros: prácticas artísticas y precariedad, curated by Cabello/Carceller at Off Limits, Madrid. Their proposal was for artists to produce works with a maximum budget of 6 euros.
