When I start on an illustration I always draw like crazy! I throw out ideas, faces, thumbnails onto a page - I love filling one up, it commits me to coming up with different ideas. Afterwards I go back, sifting through to find the ones I want to develop.

I started playing around with a shape - a heart nose, for Valentine's Day. Then I realized I wanted to draw something that was also warm and romantic. Expression and emoting are really important to me.

Computers and the internet connect us to folks we care about even if they're miles and miles away! So that concept felt a good fit for a romantic illustration, where I could only show one character. It was a challenge, but a good one to have. February might be a cold month, and the guy I've drawn might be in his underwear - but he isn't chilly in the least. He's connected to something, to someone. And that's more than enough to keep him warm.

I had a blast drawing this! I was also able to keep an idea I loved from my pathfinding pages - heart-shaped chest hair! I really enjoy this illustration and how it turned out, I hope you do too!
