Bears, illustrated is a free downloadable calendar featuring twelve different artists each year, illustrators from around the world homaging the men they love. This is the sixth edition of a project about beauty and desire outside of the norm, and the value of sharing. After five editions and a two year break, here is the most diverse collection yet! Questioning and expanding what a bear is, the meaning of masculinity and body positivity. This has always been about our subjects of admiration, but I am proud to have our first trans and female participants in 2017. This wonderful dozen shares their love for big hairy men and have each created a brand new illustration for the new year.
The 2017 calendar comes in English, Spanish, Italian and Russian, the four languages spoken by this years artists from places like Albuquerque, Naples, Brooklyn, Berlin, Dallas, Ciudad de Mexico, Savannah, London, Philadelphia, Murcia, Ohio and Saint Petersburg. Find out more about them and the story behind each of their original artworks below.

This project has been curated, designed, translated and coded since 2010 by Christian Fernández Mirón. It has become a bit of a tradition to celebrate the new year, and wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful artists that collaborate in each edition. For their generosity and beautiful work, thank you! Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Stay tuned for the next edition, and maybe a book for our tenth anniversary (2021)!
You can browse through all past editions: six years have given way to brand new works by a total of 72 artists from all over the world!
